Amalgamating first-order structures
Rosario Mennuni - Università degli Studi di Milano
Abstract: We will talk about the role of the Amalgamation Property in model theory, present some examples, and explore its main consequences and applications.
Model theory and fields, a very old relationship
Prof. Elisabeth Bouscaren - CNRS - Université Paris-Saclay
Abstract: Model theory is the study of sets definable in mathematical structures, in particular algebraic structures, groups, rings, fields...
By focusing on the example of fields (mainly the complexes and the reals) , we first aim to introduce some very classical notions of model theory and their applications to algebra. Then we hope to have time to venture a little into the world of more modern model theory, geometric model theory, and give an idea of some of the main questions and tools there.
